Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third child of the family. The young woman was just a teenager when her father who worked as a carnival barker died. Her mother had to perform tasks including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in the school. The school she attended within two years of her education to pursue the profession of acting. There were many hurdles to overcome on her path to success. When she was in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a magazine about crime and drama, however no theater job opportunities came up. After that, she was the hat checker in the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. It was there that she made a buck working as an usherette during the in the daytime, while at night she was a part of the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. The study of drama helped her to receive a degree in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
